While sorting through boxes of old photographs and film reels, a memory landscape of the Slovenian-Italian borderlands gradually unfolds—a territory torn apart by the wars and political violence of the last century. Yet the childhood memories of the eldest generation reveal a different perspective: a shared existence far more intertwined than the one taught in history textbooks. The film stitches together the recollections of people from both sides of the border, using cinematic and photographic documents to create a space for shared narrative against every war.

Anja Medved is a director, artist, and producer. She studied theatre and radio directing at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana. Her long-standing documentary practice focuses on the relationship between personal and collective memory, as well as on weaving together narratives from both sides of the Slovenian-Italian border. She is a co-founder of KINOkašča/CINEMattic, a film production company and archive of memory, and works as a documentary film mentor.
