This documentary film depicts the stories of seven men and a woman who had left their home countries and moved to Yugoslavia as part of the Non-Aligned Movement. They settled in Slovenia, starting families and careers as well as new lives. The film sheds light on their life choices, impressions and memories from their time of arrival to this day. These newcomers contemplate upon their encounters with the new and the unfamiliar, reflect on the complexity of their self-identity, and ponder their sense of belonging to their original homeland as well as their new homeland. Their views have been shaped by perspectives from various cultures, all intricately intertwined in their rich inner worlds. Their determination, persistence and courage pose a key question upon these times we now inhabit: can we understand the depths of human experience and endeavour that is able to create a home in a foreign land?

Aleš Verbić (1959 - 2021) studied physiotherapy, then AGRFT in Ljubljana. He received student Prešeren awards at both faculties and began directing propaganda films, which he continues to make today.
