Andrija Sulejman is an unusual combination of Slavic and Arabic names; it belongs to a twenty-year-old young man, a Kurd, who escaped from a war zone in his early childhood to eastern Ukraine, only to find himself again in the midst of uncertain political conditions. Ukrainian director Gorlova follows Andrije's story when he wants to meet his parents living in Syria again. This is not just an intimate story of a displaced family, but a portrait of a modern world defined by military parades, refugee centers and humanitarian missions. From the Syrian civil war to the conflict in Ukraine, Andrija's existence is framed by a seemingly eternal flow of life and death. The film is not only an intimate story of a displaced family, but an image of the modern world defined by military parades, refugee centers and humanitarian missions.
