DOCUMENTARY NAME 2022 is Nadja Velušček

Nadja Velušček is a documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, and director who has been researching and intertwining the memories of the divided Goriška area for many years. As a professor of Slovenian and Italian languages, she taught at secondary schools in Nova Gorica and Gorica, fostering an interest in the world from the other side. For half a century, Velušček has been the driving force behind cultural events in the Goriška region. She has organized art exhibitions, directed experimental youth performances, prepared radio shows about film, and for many years co-created the Kinoatelje program in collaboration with the Italian national television RAI. She lives and works in Šmihel near Nova Gorica. Her Zavod KINOkašča/CINEMattic, a film production and memory bank, is also based there.

Velušček made 12 documentary films in tandem with her daughter Anja Medved, also a film director. Their films observe the relationship between personal memories and national histories, highlighting in particular those moments of the past that have united people despite established borders.

At the DOCUMENTARY NAME 2022 award ceremony for Nadja Velušček, we will have a conversation with the author, after which we will watch her documentary My Border from 2002. Selected retrospective of the Velušček: Town in a Meadow, Binding Memories, Timeless River, Burnt in Memories and The Birds Did Not Fly will be broadcast online for the first time from 15 to 25 September 2022 in cooperation with the Slovenian Film Database.
