2024 Slavko Hren
This year's documentary, DOCUDOC 2024, is directed and written by Slavko Hren (b. 1959). He receives the award for outstanding work in the field of Slovenian documentary film.
Slavko Hren, a film and television director with a degree, created an extensive opus of documentaries, with which he highlighted many artistic names of the Slovenian area. For films such as Butnskala, Every child is beautiful at birth, Attic Vertigo, his activity on television grew significantly until today we realize that Hren is the most prolific director of Slovenian television in its history, the author with the most extensive archive legacy, diverse, fiction and documentary, extremely diverse in genres, recorded on film, tapes and cassettes and in the last decade also to digital content carriers.
The archive of Slovenian television houses more than 3,000 of Hren's original projects, ranging from drama, documentaries, music, to typical television genres: broadcasts of celebrations (Prešernova, Zoisova, Generacije znanosti ZRC SAZU), concerts, entertainment series and other programs of "live television" . Along with his work as a director, he is always engaged in screenwriting, and in some multi-year projects he even edits (Orion, Golden Sixty, Actors without a mask, Big names of the small screen, Legends).
In the entire oeuvre, the continuity of forty years of creating shows about film in different periods with different co-authors and journalists stands out: Film Workshop with Toni Tršar, Magnification with Majda Širca, Moving Pictures with Irena Ostrouška and Umetni raj with Živa Emeršič, Zemira A. Pečovnik and Mateja Valentinčič. In the documentary program Slavka Hrena, there is a noticeable trace of portraits of outstanding, prominent representatives from the field of Slovenian film, theater and music. Slavko Hren worked for 33 years with the status of cultural worker, in 2016 he got a job at RTVS. At that time, he delved into the research of Slovenian cinematography and studied the history of national television. He directed the programs Osmi dan, Fonta, Podoba poboda and celebrations in the field of culture and science (Prešeren's and Zois's celebrations, for example).
He retired in 2023.
